Chateau Cibon Cuvee Marius is a tribute to Marius Roux, who was the modern founder of Clos Cibonne and defender of the tibouren grape in Provence in the 1800's. We have Marius to thank directly for the beautiful tibouren we now drink. The label is a recreation of the original labels of the late 1800's, when the winery was called Chateau Cibon. This predates their iconic labels designed in the 1920's, which still adorn their bottles today.

Estate-grown, organic tibouren from a special parcel of Cibonne's oldest bush-trained tibouren vines (60+ years) grown just 600m from the Mediterranean Sea. Ripeness is pushed beyond the selection for Cuvee Vignettes, making this Cuvee a great candidate for the cellar. The grapes are hand-picked, de-stemmed, and direct-pressed, undergoing a very long, slow fermentation with natural yeasts from the vineyard in two 2000L foudres, where the wine rests for 24 months before bottling without fining or filtration. Cuvee Marius is a tribute and recreation of the famous Cibonne wines of centuries past, which have had the remarkable ability to age as gracefully as only the world's greatest wines are able.

This was the only wine that was rated "Exceptional" in Decanter's Aug 2020 Provence Rose panel.

Cru Classé – Côtes de Provence – Appellation d’origine protégée

Tibouren and Grenache (90% and 10%)

Rose with copper and amber highlights. An elegant nose with aromas of lily, lemon, pear, orange and almond followed by nutmeg, cloves and orange. On the mouth, a rosé of character which expresses the same flavors, persistent with a very exotic finish of honey, gingerbread, slightly buttered, woody and spicy. On the finish, very nice roundness on the palate and aromatic persistence.

Marius Roux, born in 1875, led the destiny of the estate with his wife Valentine, née Jourdan who inherited the lands around the Castle of Cibonne.

At the end of the 19th century, Marius went down to the village on market days with his wine barrel on the cart pulled by his horse to sell his wine.

For the great moments of life, between weddings, baptisms, Christmas, Easter and other festivities Marius bottled his wine.

And it is his label that we have taken to honor the memory of Marius ....

These wines are a hymn to the history of the Cibonne, generations that have succeeded each other for two centuries and the inevitable variety "The Tibouren".

These Château Cibon wines, Cuvée Marius, are gastronomy wines to be enjoyed with family or friends to celebrate the great moments of life.
